David Rudolph's NBA Corner & Free Play - 1/28/13

by David Rudolph

When it comes to NBA handicapping, I have not been lazy. I do my due diligence as far as work and reading goes. However when it comes to blogging for our site, I've been Uber lazy! Today I hope to change that back to the way it was to start this season, doing write-ups every other day or so.

First I wanna say a word about the Big game this Sunday (I say big game cause I don't know if I’ll be fined by the NFL if I use their Super tag, yes I'm kidding). I started out immediately thinking I'd ride the Niners and lay the points as I've been winning with them against the Packers and thanks to a great line at Cantor gaming, a win minus 3 1/2 versus the Falcons. Then it hit me this weekend while looking into the game a little further, I've also hit the Ravens during their road to the championship. I bet them all three of their games and they proceeded to win by a combined 40 or so over the spread. So now I’m back to square one and have no idea who to put my money on. (I also have the predicament that I've bet quite a bit on Niners already, so I may end up having to buy it back and then some!)

Back to my favorite sport to put my money on now, NBA! I don't have to go far down the schedule to come up with my free play for today, as I like the home team Raptors as a small dog tonight. The Warriors are in the midst of an east coast swing where they've lost their last two and will end up playing 4 games in 5 nights. They haven't been the same team since the start of the New Year, and are 2 games under .500 as a result. On the other hand the Raptors are a MUCH BETTER home team than when they travel as can be seen in their respective home/ road splits. They are missing two big guys, but have been helped by the rebounding of Amir Johnson and Ed Davis. Also the much traveled former Michigan state standout Alan Anderson has been playing very well for the Raptors. He spent most of his career playing in Europe and the D league, but is now showing he can play with the big boys while scoring over 18 points per contest the last 10 or so.

Thank you for coming to our blog and as a reward for doing such, take the Toronto Raptors +2 tonight Vs. the Golden State Warriors!

David Rudolph's NBA Corner & Free Play for 1/14/13

While watching the NBA the last few weeks, I had noticed that multiple coaches were telling their respective teams to "push the pace against their starters." This was against the Lakers every time and because Steve Nash had been inserted back into the lineup of a team that isn't playing, teaching, or even talking about defense. Althought I'm watching from 250 miles away in the comfort of my home or local sports-book, I felt I was in tune with the locker-rooms and what they wanted to do. It seemed to make my decision to take over last night a simple one. It didn't work out because Cleveland shot a paltry 41% and the 2nd quarter was way under pace, bringing to an end a great streak on the daily free play on ChuckEdel.com.

As I look to re-establish the streak I look to the Atlanta Hawks visiting the Chicago Bulls. Neither of these teams are playing very well currently and that would normally cause me to look at the home team, but really I got locked in on the total. Both these teams are known, as currently constructed, to be defensive teams. They both rank top ten in defensive efficiency. Yes I'm going UNDER the 184 I see this morning, even though I know it will go down throughout the day. The last time they met less than a month ago they only scored 167 points, and as I mentioned earlier, neither team is playing very well right now, which will make both coaches stress defense first, to try and just get a win.

NBA quick hitter: Super speedy point guard John Wall is back on the court in DC, and when nobody is looking, they are going for a three in a row winning streak against an Orlando team that had lost ten in a row before shocking the Clippers a couple nights ago. There is a ten game streak still going however on the OVER in Orlando's last ten, keep an eye out on that total as well today! (As of now it's 192)

David Rudolph - NBA Free play & Hockey is back!

January 9th, 2013 - It's been a while since I've made time for a quick blog post, today's quick hits will include an NBA OVER play I love tonight!

As I am sad for the entire DC area and RG3’s Knee, I realize the NFL playoffs are moving on, and there is no better weekend than this one all year. We get four games, and they all should be really good. There are two big favorites, but I feel they are both ripe for the upset. My favorite of the two is Baltimore as of mid-week, but there's plenty of time for the plethora of information to completely change my mind. From a strictly fan standpoint though, I would love to see San Fran and Seattle play for the NFC and obviously the New England, Denver match-up would be big ratings.

The tree did indeed fall in the forest when the NHL decided to end its lockout. What does this mean to me and you? It means we get to bet sides and totals of these games courtesy of RichardDouglas, and trust me that's a very good thing! Last year Richard hit the highest percentage of winners in one season I've ever seen in my 21 years in the business in any one sport! Oh, and he also called the LA Kings as the eventual champion, and that was at the trade deadline when it wasn't even for sure they'd make the playoffs!

My NBA has been going well, it's one of those times where I'm seeing everything very clearly. That being said I'll probably need to knock on wood before releasing this OVER tonight. The Mavericks will travel to LA tonight to face the Clippers, and barring a blow out, it should easily fly over the posted 201 number. The Clips are going for 13 in a row at home, but I feel Dirk and company will keep it close and meanwhile put up a ton of points. Nowitzki has increased the Mavs output by more than 8 points per contest since returning from surgery on his right knee. The Clippers feed off their home crowd and thus push the pace at Staples center, so I really do see this as an easy OVER tonight. (Have no fear, still knocking on wood!)
NBA quick hitter: Another game to take a look at the over is Denver/ Orlando. It's obvious by looking at any covers printout on the back of a line sheet that Orlando is on quite the OVER streak, but this number is a little lower because the offense of Denver has changed over the past month. BUT, tonight I fully expect them to run with this Orlando team who lacks their big man, Glenn Davis.
