NBA Corner and FREE Play - 2/14/13

by David Rudolph

"There's no love lost between the opponents in tonight's NBA match-ups."

It's Valentine's Day, and I'm surely not the first to think this, let alone blog it, but seriously, what better two games could we ask for on an ironical stage for sweetheart day?

My current favorite rivalry is that of the two Los Angeles teams. They're moving in different directions (for this year anyway - see Chris Paul's contract negotiations for the status of the rivalry next year). It's like the little brother who's been beat up and kept in the shadow for so long finally stepping up and showing that he's not only capable of sticking up for himself, but overtaking 'Top Dog' status! I don't have an opinion on which way it will go tonight because I'm not sure how healthy any player is on either team right now, but it will be fun to watch!

I do however have an opinion on this rematch of last year's NBA finals. Miami is traveling to Oklahoma City and bringing with it the absolute hottest player in the NBA this year. LeBron is not only making a case for MVP this year, but causing the talking heads on all media outlets bring up the "Who's the best player in NBA history, and is LeBron in the conversation?" (IMO, Michael Jordan will never be overtaken, but that's an argument for another day) OKC has averaged just under 120 points per game their last three at home and they are averaging shooting well over 50% in those contests.

When the two got together on Christmas day, it only got to 200 points, but the Thunder will push the pace in this one and get their fans frenzied and loud as they're known to do. I look for tonight's game to be very high scoring and go over the 204 total. It's going to be a very profitable second half, and tonight will put a nice bow on the stacks of cash we've earned this NBA season in the first half!

UPDATE ** The line on the over has moved to 205 in most place and I still love the OVER!
